Police were notified of the Valley Road theft on in Cos Cob Saturday after the man reported to police that he had contacted the delivery company and they reported the package had been delivered two weeks before, said Lt. John Slusarz.
"The resident was upgrading phones from the whole family and lost thousands with one theft," Slusarz said.
He added that with the growth in online shopping, thefts are more frequent and taking place all the time, not just during the holidays.
Police suggest scheduling a delivery pickup if the item is expensive, purchase a larger mailbox that will hold small packages, and have a neighbor keep an eye out.
